Cypress’ USB Type-C Solution Portfolio Showcased at Intel Developer Forum
Last week San Francisco was abuzz with excitement around the cutting-edge technology being displayed at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF). Cypress was front and center at the USB Community showcasing our innovative EZ-PD™ USB Type-C solutions. In a conversation with EECatalog, Ganesh Subramaniam, product family executive for USB Type-C at Cypress, summarized how USB Type-C is shaking up the USB ecosystem: “the USB Type-C specification is truly one connector to rule them all … the marketplace, specifically PC original equipment manufacturers, has recognized the obvious benefits of Type-C, including the reversible connector, slim form factor and its ability to do way more than just USB.”
IDF marked the public debut of Cypress’ new EZ-USB® GX3™ controller, which was very well-received. At our booth we demonstrated how the high-throughput, low-power SuperSpeed controller converts Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) data to USB 3.0 data. The GX3 targets slimmer laptop designs that include an ultra-thin USB Type-C port and no bulky Ethernet port.
We also showcased our new Ascella design kit based on Cypress EZ-USB CX3™ USB 3.0 camera controller and THine's THP7312 image signal processor (ISP). The reference design kit by Cypress and THine is the industry’s fastest USB 3.0 camera reference design kit with 13-megapixel resolution at 21 frames per second. The design kit enables plug-and-play operation and includes firmware optimized for all USB camera functions.
Also on display were Cypress’ CY4501 EZ-PD CCG1 Development Kit (DVK) and CY4502 EZ-PD CCG2 Development Kit. The CY4501 CCG1 is a complete USB Type-C Power Delivery DVK that provides robust reference designs for USB host, client, and electronically marked cable assembly (EMCA). The CY4502 CCG2 offers a full-featured EMCA reference design that enables designers to evaluate the CCG2 for designing USB Type-C cables and accessories.
Thanks to everyone that visited us at the show, we look forward to seeing you again next year!
